Website of the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry’s Energy
Group. Contains information on UK energy policy developments
and legislation. Does not include information on energy RTD.
Some information on technology programmes that are co-funding
demonstrations of new technologies.
Sustainable Power Generation and Supply) initiative is a programme
of research at UK universities funded by the Engineering and
Physical Sciences Research Council. To date the Supergen initiative
consists reportedly of 4 consortia (biomass and biofuels, networks,
hydrogen technology, marine); future consortia are planned in
photovoltaic, fuel cells, distributed systems, energy storage and
fossil fuel plant lifetime extension. The website links to the websites
of the 4 consortia where detailed information on the research
programme and progress are given. Links to a small selection of UK
energy RTD projects.

established on 1 April 2004 for an initial period of fi ve years. The
centre is an investment by the Research Councils and part of the
UK Towards a Sustainable Energy Economy Programme (TSEC).
The Centre will provide a focus for energy research in the UK,
and for co-operation between the UK and researchers from other
countries. The current website provides basic information about the
centre; the website will reportedly be replaced in Autumn 2004 once
the Centre activities are fully under way. No energy RTD project
information yet.

R&D Reports over 1996-2004. Discloses practical results of
demonstration and policy projects in energy.

NREL is a national laboratory of the US Department of Energy,
Offi ce of Energy Effi ciency and Renewable Energy, operated by
Midwest Research Institute Battelle. Provides access to a wealth
of info on renewable energy. Contains project descriptions and
contacts.

Scientifi c and Technical Information (OSTI) provides access to a
wealth of energy, science, and RTD info.

The research presented on the energytrends website was
conducted by the Pacifi c Northwest National Laboratory with the
support of the US DOE’s Offi ce of Science. The site informs on
trends in energy research, development, and investment around
the world. The site is not updated; information dates back to 2000.
The site contains full reports of the study on energy RTD investment
trends across countries and also in-depth reports examining
trends in energy R&D investment in the EU and eight industrialized
countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands,
the United Kingdom, and the United States.
