Jefferson County – Section 1
The population of Jefferson County has experienced a 421.2 percent change since 1950
and a 15.6 increase in the last decade. See Figure J5 in the back of the Technical Appendix.
Age
According to the 2000 Census, Jefferson County has a total of 54,784 persons under the
age of 18; 125,116 persons between the age of 18 to 64 and 18,199 persons 65 years of
age and older. Jefferson County has a younger population and has fewer residents over
the age of 64 years when compared to Missouri statewide population. The median age of
34.9 in Jefferson County is lower than the 36.0 median age for Missouri. Refer to Table J1
below.
