FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS
Dear parents
Yom Hazikaron is held annually on 4 Iyar to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the IDF and the
victims of terror at the hands of those who are anti-Israel and anti the Jewish People in general.
On Monday, 15 th April 2013, Yeshiva College held a ceremony to commemorate Yom Hazikaron.
Over 22500 soldiers have fallen protecting Jews since the dream of the establishment of the State
of Israel. In addition, over 4000 Israeli citizens have fallen at the brutal hands of terrorists. The
ceremony which was organised by the YiD department was extremely moving and enlightening. The
learners were totally captivated as the Israeli flag was lowered to half- mast. One of the our learners
then lit a yortzeit candle and we davened for the IDF and Israel. This was followed by the reciting of
tehilim. Chazan Chrysler then sang el maale rachamim and we said Yizkor. The ceremony was
concluded with a very enthusiastic singing of Hatikva. We remembered and honoured those who
have fallen, so that we as Jews can feel more secure no matter where we live.
Tuesday 16 th April was a day of great celebration after the sombre tone of Yom Hazikaron. Yom
Ha’atzmaut at Yeshiva College started with davening at 8.00 a.m. in the main Shul. Our YiD
department ran a programme for both the Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools. Thereafter all the schools,
other than the nursery school, came together for a parade that started from the entrance of the
school, went into Ridge Rd and around and then back into the school through the Mikveh gate.
Most of our learners went to Gold Reef City where there was a communal celebration of Yom
Ha’atzmaut. The report back that we have had from our learners is that they had a wonderful time
and that the entire day was a great success.
A reminder that our first General Studies Parents Evening for Grade 7 – 9 Boys, will be taking place
on Tuesday 23 rd April at 16h30 – 19h30.
On Thursday 25 th April 2013 at 16h30 – 19h30 we will be having the Parents Evening for Grade 10
& 11 Boys.
Wishing everybody a wonderful Shabbos.
Warm regards
