Wildlife in the national park includes the protected blue duck, giant land snail, the largest cave spider, the giant Weta and the largest remaining population of the great spotted kiwi. Things to do • Walk New Zealand’s longest swingbridge across the buller river gorge. • Catch the Buller Festival – a three day whitewater extravaganza held annually in march. • Try your hand at gold panning – great fun for the family. • Walk to Lake Matiri; stop at the hut for Clifford Hill 1747m lunch. lake matiri is a wildlife refuge Mt Owen for paradise duck, little shag, 1875m mallard, Dimrill Dale scaup and grey duck.
