Admissions<br />

The Admissions Office is responsible for helping prospective bachelor <strong>and</strong> master students<br />

with their admission to <strong>Maastricht</strong> University. It provides information on diploma<br />

evaluation, admission procedures, sufficiency tests for courses <strong>and</strong> languages, etc. It is<br />

also responsible for the coordination <strong>of</strong> the prospective students’ admissions audit. The<br />

Admission Office works in close cooperation with the Registration, Visa <strong>and</strong> Scholarship<br />

Office to provide the best possible service to prospective students.<br />

7.3 UM Career Services<br />

UM Career Services aims at assisting students with a successful preparation for their<br />

future Career through workshops, information, advice <strong>and</strong> counselling. In addition UM<br />

Career Services links students <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maastricht</strong> University to the job market in various ways.<br />

• Career & Information Centre: resource centre with all kinds <strong>of</strong> information about<br />

career <strong>and</strong> study<br />

• Quick Career Advice: 15 minutes guidance counselling about career planning <strong>and</strong> study<br />

choice<br />

• Career Counsellors: individual in-depth coaching about career planning <strong>and</strong> study<br />

choice (max. 3 consults <strong>of</strong> 1 hour)<br />

• Job interview simulation (individual): preparation for an actual employment interview,<br />

video-taped <strong>and</strong> evaluated<br />

• Lectures, presentations <strong>and</strong> career events: in cooperation with study associations,<br />

alumni <strong>and</strong> companies<br />

7.4 <strong>Student</strong> Guidance<br />

At university you are expected to be independent <strong>and</strong> take care <strong>of</strong> your affairs yourself.<br />

This does not mean, however, that you won’t have any questions!<br />

The student counsellors can surely answer many <strong>of</strong> your questions.<br />

Below please find an overview <strong>of</strong> the counsellors working at <strong>Student</strong> Services Centre:<br />

Psychological support (student psychologists)<br />

The student psychologists may be consulted in case <strong>of</strong> personal problems. Examples <strong>of</strong><br />

such problems may be:<br />

• Study related problems like study stress <strong>and</strong> fear <strong>of</strong> failure<br />

• Psychological complaints such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, stress-related<br />

complaints, lack <strong>of</strong> confidence, dealing with traumatic experiences.<br />

The student psychologists can help you by means <strong>of</strong> individual guidance <strong>and</strong>/or group<br />

training (in Dutch <strong>and</strong> English).<br />

Examples <strong>of</strong> group training; Training course on fear <strong>of</strong> failure, Study efficacy group, Loss<br />

<strong>and</strong> mourning group, Stress management, Assertiveness training <strong>and</strong> Time management.<br />
