Born in North London, Allam trained at Manchester University, where he received a BA<br />

in Drama. After performing at Contract Theatre, Monstrous Regiment, <strong>the</strong> Birmingham<br />

Rep and Glasgow Citizens Theatre, he joined <strong>the</strong> Royal Shakespeare Company in 1981.<br />

Allam played <strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong> Inspector Javert in <strong>the</strong> original London production <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Schonberg/Boublil musical “Les Miserables,” and his subsequent U.K. stage appearances<br />

have included “Speer,” “What <strong>the</strong> Night is For,” “Democracy,” “Aladdin,” “Blackbird,”<br />

“The Importance <strong>of</strong> Being Earnest,” “The Way <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> World,” “Art,” “Ensemble,” “Troilus<br />

and Cressida,” “Summerfolk,” “The Cherry Orchard,” “Boeing Boeing,” “Afterlife” and<br />

“La Cage Aux Folles.”<br />

Allam’s feature films have included “Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story,” “The<br />

Wind That Shakes <strong>the</strong> Barley,” “The Queen,” “V for Vendetta,” “Speed Racer” and<br />

“Tamara Drewe.” He’s also been seen in <strong>the</strong> television movies “The Investigation: Inside<br />

a Terrorist Bombing,” “RKO 281,” “Foyle’s War,” “The Roman Spring <strong>of</strong> Mrs. Stone,”<br />

“Krod Mandoon and <strong>the</strong> Flaming Sword <strong>of</strong> Fire” and several series.<br />

Roger Allam lives in London with his wife, actress Rebecca Saire, with sons William and<br />

Thomas.<br />

ANTON LESSER (Lord John Carteret) attended <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Liverpool before going<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Royal Academy <strong>of</strong> Dramatic Arts in 1977, where he was awarded <strong>the</strong> Bancr<strong>of</strong>t<br />

Gold Medal as <strong>the</strong> most promising actor <strong>of</strong> his year. As an associate artist with <strong>the</strong> Royal<br />

Shakespeare Company he has played a considerable number <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bard’s great roles,<br />

including Troilus in “Troilus and Cressida,” Edgar in “King Lear,” Henry Bolingbroke in<br />

“Richard II,” Petruchio and Romeo in “Romeo and Juliet,” Brutus in “Julius Caesar,”<br />

Leontes in “A Winter’s Tale” and <strong>the</strong> title role <strong>of</strong> “Richard III.” He’s also starred in <strong>the</strong><br />

title role <strong>of</strong> “Hamlet” and as Dr. Rank in “A Doll’s House” at <strong>the</strong> Donmar Warehouse,<br />

and in “The Vertical Hour” at <strong>the</strong> Royal Court Theatre.<br />

Lesser’s feature film credits have included “Es<strong>the</strong>r Kahn,” “Charlotte Gray,” “Eroica,”<br />

“Imagining Argentina,” “Mrs. Potter” and “Primieval.” His numerous television<br />

appearances have included “King Lear,” “Good and Bad at Games,” “The Murderers<br />

Among Us: The Simon Wiesenthal Story,” “The Politician’s Wife,” “Vanity Fair,”<br />

“Dickens,” “The Girl in <strong>the</strong> Café,” “Little Dorrit,” “Casualty” and many o<strong>the</strong>rs. He lives in<br />

Warwickshire with his wife Madeleine and <strong>the</strong>ir two children, Harry and Lily.<br />
