GANNAWARRA SHIRE ANNUAL REPORT 2011 COUNCIL’S VISION Gannawarra Shire: a vibrant, caring and prosperous community that offers social, economic and environmental sustainability for all. COUNCIL’S MISSION In partnership with the community, Council will offer the services and facilities needed to benefit residents and foster the social, economic and environmental sustainability of the municipality. COUNCIL’S VALUES Councillors and Council staff value: Integrity • Reliability • Respectfulness • Openness • Responsiveness • Fairness • Enjoyment •
The list of values and what they represent are explained in more detail below, along with ‘I statements’ (in italics) the behaviour that Councillors and Council staff commit to. INTEGRITY: Councillors and staff will exhibit sound moral principles and character, and will be consistently honest and trustworthy in their dealings with each other and the community. I will behave ethically. I am sincere in my interaction with people. RELIABILITY: Councillors and staff will be reliable and consistent in their approach to service delivery so that community members can depend on Councillors and staff to do what they say they will do. I can be depended upon to do what I say I will do. RESPECT: Councillors and staff will treat others with respect and understanding. They will value difference and diversity, and will deal with others as they would like to be dealt with. I will treat others as I would like to be treated. I will be open to a range of ideas and opinions, and accept the rights of others to hold different views. OPENNESS: Councillors and staff will actively promote the free flow of information and ideas; and will be clear, open and direct in all their communication with each other and the community. I will encourage others to communicate with me and ask questions. RESPONSIVENESS: Councillors and staff will seek to engage with residents and ratepayers to determine community needs. They will be proactive in seeking lawful ways in which to cater for these needs, and will respond to customer requests in a timely manner. If it is not possible to comply with a request, they will provide a clear explanation. I will seek ways to do, rather than not to do. I will be proactive and take the initiative. FAIRNESS: Councillors and staff will be free of bias, prejudice and injustice, and will endeavour to deal with everyone on an equal basis. I will make judgments free from discrimination. I will serve the community with openness and impartiality. ENJOYMENT: Councillors and staff will employ a positive attitude to work and will use a balance of efficiency, communication and humour to create job satisfaction.
