POLITICS AND THE BAR
Three lawyers, including a former state senator who represented Solano County, are suing the State Bar of
California for violating their First Amendment rights.
The lawsuit points out that membership in the State Bar is mandatory for practicing lawyers. However, the
organization takes a political stand on issues they don’t necessarily agree with.
to support bills that are good for the public but bad for lawyers. [End quoting]
Hopefully, these lawyers will do something about stopping their peers from taking away their clients’ rights,
also. There’s little likelihood that their clients will have any sympathy for them until they do.
