Once a blending formula has been established, the distiller or bottler must adhere to it rigidly to maintain the uniform identity. In considering the differences in whiskies it is well to remember that straight whiskey such as bourbon or rye is full-flavored and full bodied, white the blended whiskey is by comparison light in body and flavor. Many people still refer to blended whiskey as rye. It is not, and true straight rye will probably shock the palate of the imbiber accustomed to blends. • COOKING WITH WINE LIVER PATE SPREAD—You'll need 2 tbs. butter, V4 cup finely chopped onions, V4 cup cooked crumbled bacon, 1 to 4 V4 oz. cans of liver pate, V* tsp. dry mustard and 1 tab. sherry. Melt butter in small skillet, add onions and saute lightly. Combine with other ingredients.' Mix thoroughly. Serve on small crackers, and garnis: with'crumbled bacon. Makes 10. QUICKIE QUIZ Q. Thomas Waldman has accepted the unenviable responsibility of co-chairman of the Cape May County Republican Organization's campaign for the November 2 general election. Waldman is an astute politician, a knowledeable administrator and he has a keen sense of good press relations and good public relations. Let's hope that some of the Mayor's qualities rub off on the County Republicans. They certainly could use some refinement. County government for years has been the opaque area in the ad- ministration of public affairs as far as the voters and taxpayers are concerned. County officials seem to oc- cupy the privileged status of an Army top sergeant, little pressure from any direction. There are some intellects who are of the opinion that the freeholder system of county government is antiquated and should be relegated to history. Cape May County's board of freeholders has been a political cauldron of personal aggrandizement for a number of years, but the situation A *— «-—-. ..mmmul and there seems little prospeci that the November election will cool things down. Cracker barrell politics in its virgin form seem to be the practice at Court. House. Board members appear more concerned with solidifying their political tenures than they are in providing an effective, efficient government for the people who elect them. The Board members are presently engaged in a power struggle with members split in their loyalties and their direction. A review of the can- didates seeking a seat on the Board in this Fall's voting offers no prospect that things will be any better whether incumbent are returned or new faces introduced. As long as the individual freeholders are afflicted with this Nero syndrome the people of the county will suffer. While so grossly engaged in political struggles the freeholders just don't have the time nor inclination to act in a fashion representative to the thoughts and desires of the people. It's about time our freeholders stopped acting like a band of for a number ot years, DUI urc aiiuaiiuu ~wCr— « in recent months has worsened and . sophomores and grew up. School buses tire running For the first time since last June, children are back in school. This means as much to Ocean City motorists as it does to the children. Motorist over the past three months have not concerned themselves too much with buses in traffic. The time has come again to concern ourselves with these vehicles. There are stiff penalities for violations. Children are unpredictable, and the school bus law protects them, and motorists, should one decide to dart around the bus and across the street unexpectedly. If all traffic is stopped, the children are safe in all cir- cumstances. There is also the matter of school crossings. At intersections where the city's three public schools and one parochial school are located there are marked crossing lanes for the youngsters. Motorists should drive slowly and cautiously through these school neighborhoods, and those who are not certain where they are-should familiarize themselves with their locations; • ••" : . :-: ""XXX'XiXi-. • School days-also mean the added traffic hazard of bicycles on the streets. Bicycles are a popular mode of travel for children going to and coming from school and motorists should be alert in the presence of these two- wheeled vehicles. The laws are made for the protection of children and motorists. Obey them and our youngsters will remain uninjured and our motorists will remain out of trouble. RBIMM
