THE OCEAN CITY SENTINEL-LEDGER
Editor, Sentinel-Ledger-As
an alumnus of The Sentinel-
Ledger, some 13 years
removed, it has become
disturbing to see the news
columns so frequently laving
claim to "new records" and
"first time" events when such
historical nonsense is not based
on accurate knowledge.
I refer specifically to last
' week's story which stated flatly
that the record for shortness of
a city commission meeting "hi
the history of the city" was 48
•-' «a»nii»vF: ,'WiatE-iJnould have
been made clear was that this
alleged record was only within
the memory of the reporter now
covering your city hall hews.
During the more than two
decades (1932 to 1953) that this
ex-reporter covered city hall
Forum, Agin' 'Em
for the S-L there probably were
a dozen meetings when the
board met to approve bills and
immediately adjourned. There
also were other meetings
merely called to order and
promptly adjourned, to be
reconvened later the same day
for some specific purpose. On
at least oneoccaston I recall the
three solons .didn't even sit
down. Certainly many of these
could have been as short, or
even . shorter, than your
claimed 48-second record. Of
course, I was too lacking hi
enterprise to carry a stop watch
to record such trivia in those
days. > ...
