PREFACE/ACKNO\VLEDGMENTS<br />

This report is the result of a 4-week study/audit/evaluation ofthe Jordan Iron &<br />

Steel Industries Co. , LTD. The purpose of the study was to evaluate and identify<br />

potential pollution prevention/waste minimization and water conservation techniques<br />

which are appropriate. The executive summary on the following pages outlines the<br />

consultants findings and actions during the study/audit/evaluation.<br />

Several individuals on the Water Quality Improvement and Conservation Project<br />

contributed to this report. Dr. Usama Mudallal ofthe Amman Chamber ofIndustry<br />

(Chamber); Engineer Rania Abdul Khaleq of the Ministry ofWater and Irrigation (MWI);<br />

Eng. Waleed Hussein, of the Water Authority ofJordan (WAJ); and Dr. Riyad Musa and<br />

Dr. Omar Jabay of the Royal Scientific Society ofAmman; plant managerial and technical<br />

stafTincluding Mr. Mohmoud AI Edwan, Inspector General, Mr. Ahmad Pervaiz,<br />

who heads the WQIC component under which the study/audit/evaluation was housed. It<br />

is from their combined expertise that this report was possible.<br />
