Chapter 3—Historic Context for Common Historic <strong>Bridge</strong> Types<br />

The most significant T-Beams are early examples <strong>of</strong> the type and examples built<br />

according to early twentieth century state DOT standard plans. Intact examples that have<br />

longer than average spans (greater than 30 feet) and those with decorative features such<br />

as a balustrade or parapet may also be considered significant.<br />

1. Little Buffalo River <strong>Bridge</strong> (1939), Newton County, AR. NRHP listed<br />

1995.<br />

2. Johnson <strong>Bridge</strong> (n.d.), Walla Walla County, WA. NRHP listed 1982 in<br />

Historic <strong>Bridge</strong>s/Tunnels in Washington State Thematic Resource<br />

Nomination.<br />

3. Fullersburg <strong>Bridge</strong> (1924), spanning Salt <strong>Creek</strong> at York Road, Oak Brook,<br />

Du Page County, IL. HAER IL-140.<br />

4. Jones Beach Causeway <strong>Bridge</strong> No. 1 (1929), Route 908 T, spanning<br />

Seamans Island <strong>Creek</strong>, Hempstead, Nassau County, NY. HAER NY-163.<br />

5. <strong>Bridge</strong> #1912 (1925), Route 1 across the Appotomax River, Petersburg,<br />

VA. Listed as NRHP eligible in A Survey <strong>of</strong> Non-<strong>Arch</strong>ed Historic<br />

Concrete <strong>Bridge</strong>s in Virginia Constructed Prior to 1950 (1996).<br />
