How To Size A Water Conditioner<br />
How to size a water conditioner:<br />
When sizing equipment for a residence, we use the results from our water test (hardness and iron<br />
readings x the number of persons in the household x 75 gallons per day per person = the total grains per<br />
day). The total grains per day is divided into the capacity of the softener to get the number of days until<br />
the regeneration.<br />
Example: Family of 5, with 18 grains of hardness per gallon (GPG) and 1.5 PPM iron18 GPG + (1.5 x 4 = 6<br />
GPG) = 24 total GPG (1ppm of iron = 4 GPG)5 persons x 75 gallons = 375 gallons per day usage24 GPG x<br />
375 gallons = 9,000 grains per day use<br />
