Central Swimming Championships On February 8 th -10 th the Central Swimming Championships were held in Hamilton. Libby Gray, Saacha, Georgia and Joshua McCormack-Goeth all met strict qualifying times to compete at this swim meet. TV Athletics Photos The results are as follows: Saacha McCormack-Goeth Gold 200m Breast Bronze 100m Breast Saacha also swam in the regional U14 Freestyle & Medley Relay which won Silver & Bronze respectively. CRICKET With six keen, talented Year 9 cricketers entering H.P.C. in February, it was decided to give this College's team the strongest possible competition by entering the side in the Waikato Secondary Schools Colts grade. This was considered the best way to challenge and develop the cricketing skills of the Years 9 /10 players who will hopefully form the nucleus of a strong 1st XI in the near future. After four weeks, the team has had two wins and two losses and has benefited from its experiences. Almost every player has made a firm contribution to the team's cause over the four games. From a batting perspective, Cullen Aislabie has been outstanding and has already scored more than two hundred runs at an average of over 50. The bowling honours have been evenly shared with Will Smit 4/26 against Hamilton Boys High School being the best figures so far. There are four more matches to be played during March. Hauraki Plains College Year 9 cricketers Cullen Aislabie and Keegan Walsh have been advised that they have been selected in the Northern Districts Under 14 squad which will be involved in off- season training beginning in July. Aislabie who was the leading run scorer in the Northern Districts Primary Schools tournament prior to Christmas, has also been in fine form for his College team in recent weeks. Netball L Benns TIC Trials have been taking place over the past few weeks. It is looking like we will have 13 teams. Coaches and Managers are required for each of these teams. Please contact Lynette Benns if you are keen to help out with coaching or managing a team, once the teams have been named / selected. HPC BASKETBALL – WHERE AMAZING HAPPENS! Thanks to those parents and whanau who attended the Club’s AGM last week. We are looking for Managers and helpers for some teams so if you would be able to help out in any way it would be much appreciated. We have a great committee so you would be fully supported if you decide you would like to be part of a great Club! Trials for our 4 teams are underway this term as we have a preseason tournament down to Rotorua on 12 April. Letters will be going out as soon as the 4 teams for Western Heights are named with more details. Those players unable to trial due to summer code commitments will be given another opportunity after Western Heights. Thank you to the following Coaches for 2013:- Jnr. Girls – Moana Te Moananui Jnr. Boys – Malcolm Cross Snr. Girls – Suzanne Herkt and Bronwyn Roberts, Technical Assistant – Karen Saunders Snr. Boys – Keegan Aislabie The Thames Valley league will commence at the beginning of term 2 and each player will be issued with a draw for the season. Players will also be issued with their uniforms, warm-up shirts and gear bags and must be responsible for these during the season. Jnr Boys and Girls must wear their HPC tracksuit and warm-up shirt to and from games and the Snr Boys and Girls must wear their Number Ones. Each team is also responsible to do bench duty and help with setting up and cleaning up at home games. Fees are due by the 2 nd playing game and they are $90.00 per child for the season, these help pay for Thames Valley registration, travel to Mercury Bay, equipment, uniforms etc. At Hauraki Plains College we have a no pay, no play policy. The next HPC Basketball Club meeting is on Monday 8 April at 7:00pm in Room 1 and we would welcome any new or interested parents, caregivers, family or whanau. As the old saying goes “many hands make light work”.
