We are now tracking all of our school leavers’ career
directions. Of the 141 students who left school at
Years 11, 12 and 13, 85% left with a minimum
qualification of NCEA Level 2 and 135 headed towards
tertiary learning and full time employment.
Given that the youth unemployment rate stands
at 17%, we feel that the time and resources
given to Careers speaks for itself. The table at
the bottom gives a sense of learning and career
destinations from graph shows the learning and
career destinations for the 100 Year 13 students
from last year.
Parents are a key factor in each young person’s
decision making around careers. If as a parent,

Winter Uniform
The transition from summer to winter uniform will
start after the Easter long weekend. Easter weekend is
a 5-day long weekend, from Friday 29 March to
Tuesday 2 April. From Wednesday 3 April students can
wear either their winter uniform or their summer
uniform. Students need to be in ONE full uniform and
NOT in a combination of uniforms. This arrangement
will be in effect until the end of Week 2 of Term 2 and
from Monday 6 May students have to be in full winter
uniform.
Board of Trustee news:
At our last BOT
meeting, Mr Ian Clark
stood down as BOT
chair, with Mr Peter
Schouten fulfilling this
position until BOT
elections in May of this
year. Mr Clark, himself
a past pupil of HPC, has
been on the Board for
eight years and
chairperson for the last
six years.
Under Mr Clark’s leadership, we have
seen a significant number of initiatives
underway, including the Centennial
Centre and fields development for
example.
Mr Clark has also ensured a positive
working relationship between BOT and
staff, a key factor in the success of any
school.
A huge thank you to Mr Clark for his
considerable contribution over this time.
