on Moder 1992) has been calculated<br />
• Bybee and Slobin (1982: 288) list 27 strung verbs.<br />
• Hornby, Cowie and Gimson’s monolingual English<br />
dictionary (1974: 1003–1006) lists 21 verbs of the strung<br />
class and 22 of the swept class<br />
• A short glance at that list reveals that the strung class is<br />
phonologically much more coherent than the swept class<br />
