2.4.3 Behaviour-Based Observation Systems<br />

Objective<br />

To demonstrate that members of the work<strong>for</strong>ce are encouraged to monitor <strong>HSE</strong> practices<br />

through a structured behaviour based observation process.<br />

How can this be achieved?<br />

‣ Implementing a suitable observation and monitoring process.<br />

‣ Providing training and instruction on the application of the process.<br />

‣ Taking action on the issues identified through the process.<br />

‣ Providing feedback to people raising issues through the process.<br />

What in the <strong>Drilling</strong> Contractor’s Management System demonstrates assurance to others that<br />

this objective can be achieved? (See also Part 6 – Per<strong>for</strong>mance Monitoring)<br />

‣ Details of the behaviour based observation process.<br />

‣ Training and instruction given to employees and contractors on its application.<br />

‣ Details of the arrangements <strong>for</strong> processing and reviewing issues identified through the<br />

process.<br />

2.4.4 Environmental Monitoring and Measurement<br />

Objective<br />

To demonstrate that the environmental impact of discharges and emissions are being<br />

adequately monitored and measured.<br />

How can this be achieved?<br />

‣ Where discharges or emissions are measured at the worksite; to ensure that the<br />

measurements are documented and meet applicable regulatory requirements.<br />

‣ Where discharges or emissions are estimated; to ensure that the methods of estimation<br />

are documented and appropriate.<br />

‣ Where discharges or emissions are directly measured, to ensure that measurement<br />

equipment is being correctly operated and calibrated according to documented<br />

procedures.<br />

‣ Where background environmental monitoring is taking place; to ensure that sampling<br />

and analysis procedures are documented and based on sound field practices.<br />
