FIRE HAZARD INCREASES
The records show that fires ILn, deltrical
origin throughout the country are
increasing very rapidy and there is m)
doubt in my mind, that during this war.
they will reach a point which will be
staggering. In ,my opinion tens of thou.
sands of fires will be caused by the in-
El-ease in activities, work done by handymen
o, other inexperienced ind unqualifled
I.rsons who attempt to nmake additions
to the existing electrical equipment,
making repdair, etc., without the prnper
knowledge or materials.
Iiiring a meeting of the Electrical
Comnittue of the N. F. P. A., held in New
York City, March of this year, Field Engineer
Tousley stated that ihis record
showed that over 25 pe, cent of the fires
which occurred in industrial plants during
the past 12 months were proved to be
of electrical origin. Just stop and think
for a moment what a shut-down of a
plant means to our government during
thee times. This is a very high percentage
when you consider the hundreds
of causes of fires,. it clearly shows the
necessity of rigid electrical inspections
and reiaspections of old installations
throughout the country, and that the loss
of life and p 1 rojerty from electrical fires
is not negligible, and that electrical codes
and t ards are absolutly neessmary
