4.1.11 When the name of the place of publication or distribution appears on the prescribed source<br />

of information in more than one language and/or script, the form of name made prominent by typography<br />

or, if there is no typographical distinction, the form of name that appears first is given. If neither of these<br />

criteria applies, the linguistic form that corresponds to the language of the item is given.<br />

4.1.12 Parallel statements may be given, preceded by a space, equals sign, space. If these are<br />

not given, no indication is made of the omission.<br />

4.1.13 When a place of publication or distribution does not appear anywhere in the item, the<br />

name of the known city or town is supplied in square brackets. If the city or town is uncertain, or unknown,<br />

the name of the probable city or town followed by a question mark is supplied in square brackets.<br />

e.g.<br />

. – [Hamburg?]<br />

4.1.14 When the name of a city or town cannot be given, the name of the state, province or<br />

country is given, according to the same stipulations as are applicable to the names of cities or towns.<br />

Editorial comment: Known as place of publication; appears outside prescribed<br />

4.1.15 When no place can be given, the abbreviation "s.l." (sine loco) or its equivalent in another<br />

script, is supplied, enclosed in square brackets.<br />

e.g.<br />

. – [S.l.]<br />

. – [б.м.]<br />

4.2 Name of publisher and/or distributor<br />

4.2.1 When more than one publisher is named on the prescribed source of information, the<br />

name made more prominent by typography or, if there is no typographical distinction, the name that<br />

appears first is given. If there is no typographical distinction and the names do not appear in sequence, the<br />

name considered most important by the bibliographic agency is given.<br />

e.g.<br />

. – London : Pictorial Charts Educational Trust<br />

. – Firenze : La Nuova Italia<br />

. – Mocква : Изогиз<br />

4.2.2 Second and subsequent publishers may be given.<br />

e.g.<br />

. – London : National Savings Committee ; Edinburgh : National Savings Committee for<br />

Scotland<br />

4.2.3 When second or subsequent publishers are omitted, the omission may be indicated by<br />

"etc." or its equivalent in another script, enclosed in square brackets.<br />

e.g.<br />

. – Washington, D.C. : Evaporated Milk Association [etc.]<br />
