4.3 Statement of function of distributor (optional)<br />

4.3.1 When the prescribed source of information includes as an integral part of the publication<br />

statement an indication of the function performed by the distributor, the statement is transcribed in full.<br />

. – London : Educational Productions ; Nottingham : produced for Bairnswear<br />

. – Tavistock ; Nairobi : produced and published by the University Press of Africa ;<br />

4.3.2 When the function performed by the distributor is not explicitly stated, a brief word or<br />

phrase indicating the nature of the activity may be added, enclosed in square brackets.<br />

4.4 Date of publication and/or distribution<br />

4.4.1 The date of publication of the item described is given.<br />

e.g. . – London : Chandos, 1979<br />

4.4.2 When the same date applies to both publication and distribution or to more than one<br />

publisher or distributor, it is given after the last name or statement of function.<br />

e.g.<br />

. – Montreal : National Film Board of Canada ; London : Guild Sound and Vision<br />

[distributor], 1968<br />

4.4.3 If the publication date differs from the date of distribution, each date is given after the<br />

appropriate name or statement of function.<br />

4.4.4 Dates of the Gregorian calendar are given in arabic numerals. Dates not of the Gregorian<br />

calendar are given as they appear in the item with the equivalent date of the Gregorian calendar added in<br />

square brackets when it can be established.<br />

4.4.5 When the date that appears in the item is known to be incorrect, it is transcribed as it<br />

appears and a correction is given in square brackets.<br />

4.4.6 When there is no date of publication or distribution in the item, the copyright date or date of<br />

manufacture is given in its place. Both dates are indicated as such.<br />
