A word or phrase, or a group of characters, representing a<br />
distinct unit of bibliographic information and forming part of an<br />
area of the bibliographic description.<br />
The process involved in determining and creating the version<br />
which is issued as a recording. It may result from the mix of<br />
several takes.<br />
A term indicating, broadly, the class of material to which an<br />
item belongs (see Appendix C).<br />
A ten-figure number including a check digit and preceded by<br />
an alphabetic prefix. The ISBN identifies an edition of a work<br />
issued by one specific publisher and is unique to that edition.<br />

(ISDS) and is based on the ISO standard ISO 3297-1986.<br />
A physical manifestation of a work or group of works in any<br />
form, considered as an entity and as such forming the subject<br />
of a single bibliographic description.<br />
The unique name assigned to a serial by the International<br />
Serials Data System (ISDS), and inseparably linked with its<br />
ISSN.<br />
The brand or trade mark name associated with all or some of<br />
the products of a publisher or production company,<br />
particularly for sound recordings.<br />
A numbered series which contains one or more sub-series.<br />
A method of bibliographic description based on the division of<br />
descriptive information into two or more levels. The first level<br />
contains information common to the whole or main item. The<br />
second and subsequent levels contain information relating to<br />
the individual unit.<br />
Material comprising two or more distinct items, no one of<br />
which is identifiable as being of primary importance.<br />
The identification of each of the successive issues of a series.<br />
The designation can include a number, a letter, any other<br />
character or the combination of these and the pertaining<br />
denomination (volume, number, etc.), and/or a date.<br />
