The primary carers who had experienced violence or <strong>in</strong>timidation were asked where they had gone for help<br />
(Figure 3.5). Eight primary carers said that they had moved to a safe place while 14 said they had sought<br />
medical assistance. Twenty-one respondents said they had reported the <strong>in</strong>cident to the police.<br />

Primary carers’ experience <strong>of</strong> deal<strong>in</strong>g with teenagers<br />
Accord<strong>in</strong>g to the primary carers with teenage children, over half (54%) worried about <strong>their</strong> teenagers’<br />
socialis<strong>in</strong>g (Table 3.10). Almost half (49%) <strong>of</strong> the primary carers said that the <strong>in</strong>cident that would cause most<br />
concern was that <strong>their</strong> teenager would be sexually assaulted, robbed or attacked while socialis<strong>in</strong>g. Another<br />
notable cause <strong>of</strong> concern for over one third (37%) <strong>of</strong> respondents was that <strong>their</strong> teenagers would develop a<br />
problem with, or as a result <strong>of</strong>, drugs or alcohol use.<br />
