A STROLL THROUGH
The environs: the Castello di Govone (Govone
Castle), once a medieval fortress and now the
town hall, which belonged to the Savoy from
1792 to 1870. The grand staircase adorned
with reliefs from the gardens of Venaria Reale
is spectacular. Note the singular rooms
embellished with Chinese wallpaper and the
ball room. In Guarene, the castle of the same
name is an example of the Piedmontese
Baroque that reveals the influence of the
architect Filippo Juvarra.
