Environmental Compliance Unit<br />
The provision of environmental health advice and the monitoring and enforcement of a range of statutory<br />
requirements, by-laws and policies including:<br />
• Proactively monitoring and abating specific health nuisances<br />
• Monitoring the wider environment through acoustic, water and sanitary services assessments<br />
• Managing the activities of registered premises under the Health Act 1956 – through a combination of<br />
education, inspection and enforcement (e.g. food premises, mobile shops, hairdressers, camping grounds<br />
and offensive trades)<br />
• Carrying out a range of functions as a Liquor Licensing Inspector and <strong>District</strong> Licensing.<br />
Agency under the provisions of the Sale of Liquor Act<br />
• Responding to complaints regarding adverse environmental effects (e.g. odour, noise and vermin)<br />
• Other Local Government Act activities including administering council polices (e.g. Gambling Venue Policy,<br />
Liquor Ban By-law, Brothels By-law)<br />
• The proactive monitoring of resource consent conditions and investigation of complaints alleging breaches<br />
of conditions, breaching a rule in the <strong>District</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>, or breaching a by-law.<br />
Animal, Noise and Parking Control<br />
The provision of statutory responsibilities under the Dog Control Act 1996, after hours residential noise<br />
complaints, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act and parking enforcement duties, via external<br />
contracts for services.<br />
