From The Headmaster
Grammar School Success
We congratulate the Year 6 pupils who have taken and passed the entrance
test to the Bournemouth Grammar Schools. Well done to Isobel Brearley,
Adam El Kholy, Morgan Hand, Abbie Rowsell, Sacha Solomons, Phoebe
Collins, Jessica Fulton, Robert Wakefield and Tyler White.
Year 7 Parent/Teacher Consultations
Please note that due to next week’s Year 7 Parents’ Meetings, there will be no
Senior School Clubs on Monday and Tuesday, with the exception of:
Monday: Scrabble, Rugby, Airfix and Prep
Tuesday: LAMDA, Cheerleading and Prep.
Red Nose Day: Friday 15 th March
Children may come to school in “mufti” next Friday, bringing with them £1.50
in support of the Red Nose appeal. A number of additional initiatives have
been planned for the day, which will make it a very exciting one!
Healthy Eating Lessons
We are most grateful to nutritionist Sophia Moore (mother of Alexander and
Dimitri), who has kindly embarked on a series of interactive lectures to Senior
School children, highlighting the importance of Healthy Eating. Thank you!
Marketing Survey
You may already have received, by e-mail, a short questionnaire from our
Marketing Manager, Lisa Lilley. We would be most grateful for your help, as
we review our advertising priorities.
Sports Tour to Jersey
Our Senior Sportsmen and Sportswomen arrived safely in Jersey yesterday.
We look forward to hearing about their overseas experience on their return!
Year 2 v Year 3 Boys’ Football Match/Girls’ Multi-Skills Competition
The annual sporting contest between the children of Years 2 and Year 3 will
take place next Friday (15 th March), starting at 2.00 pm. Parents of those
playing are warmly invited to support, after which refreshments for parents
will be available in the Dining Room.

Staff News
Please note that Director of Sport Bob Cole will not be in school for the last week
and a half of term. He will be recuperating from keyhole knee surgery, in order to
be back to full fitness for the beginning of the summer term!

Year 3 and 4 Production — Pirates of the Curry Bean
Congratulations to Rosie Lennox and Charlie Duffin who are winners of our
Pirates of the Curry Bean ‘design a programme’ front cover.
Tickets are available from Tessa Wansey at Senior School Reception. The production
will be at 6.30 pm on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th March. Tickets: Adult
£5 Children £2.50. Cheques should be made payable to Durlston Court School .
Red Nose Day—Friday 15th March - Wear Something Red
Next Friday, we will be supporting Red Nose Day. For a donation of £1.50 children
may wear mufti to school. No hair dye and makeup please!
Please could senior school children bring in lots of change for the following activities
which some our pupils are organising:
Year 3-5 pupils will be taking part in a Cookathon organised by Mrs Jones. If anyone
would like to bring cakes in to school for a sale, they would be gratefully received.
Any letftover cakes will be sold by Year 8 pupils in the car park at the end
of the day.
Year 6 girls are taking part in a sponsored silence!
Year 7 girls will be doing hand and arm painting
Year 8 pupils will be out in force in the car park first thing in the morning asking for
Parent donations. We are sure it will be a fun and successful day!

As part of World Book Day, the Senior school pondered the question, “What is the
World’s Best Question?”. Mr Fulton set the scene in Chapel and the provenance of
the mysterious yellow ‘Thunks’ (thought-provoking questions) that have appeared
in the Jubilee corridor over the past fortnight was finally explained. We hope that
they have provoked as many stimulating conversations in your homes as they have
at school! Staff and pupils alike have posted their questions on the giant question
marks in the Library. The best ‘original’ question will be determined after much deliberation
by Mr Fulton and Mrs Brebbia as there were a huge range of excellent
questions.
In your envelopes with this newsletter are a variety of book-related documents, including
an invitation to pupils from Reception upwards to participate in a
‘Readathon’ – a sponsored reading challenge. The Readathon will run from now
until Friday April 19th. If your child would like any help in choosing some reading
targets, there will be a helpsheet available in the Library next week, or they can ask
Mrs Brebbia for some guidance. All pupils participating in the Readathon will receive
a special book mark when they return their sponsorship card.

From The Pre-Prep
World Book Day was celebrated in great style in
Pre-Prep. All the children took part and dressed
up as their favourite book character. Each class
took it in turn to stand on the stage and say who
they were. It was Reception’s turn to take assembly,
so they entertained everyone with their
version of the book ‘We’re Going on a Bear
Hunt’. What a wonderful day!

Each, Peach, Pear, Plum - I spy Steve Porter
painting with everyone!
On Tuesday, the artist Steve Porter came to Pre-Prep and in small groups, he involved
all the children from UKG to Y2 in painting a mural for our Library. The mural
is based on the story ‘Each, Peach, Pear Plum’ by the Ahlbergs and features a central
fruit tree with lots of Fairy Tale and Nursery Rhyme characters around, under
and on it. It was amazing to see it develop throughout the day and the finished
piece is beautiful. It will be up in the library soon for a ‘big reveal!’
