Further Scholarship Success!
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Password dcs01 Friday, 15th March 2013
What a scholarship season we are having! In addition to
those already highlighted in previous newsletters, I am
delighted to announce the following major achievements:
Jessica Nice (Head Girl) Academic Scholarship and
Art Scholarship to Canford
Max Clark Academic Scholarship to Harrow
Many congratulations to Jess and Max on these superb
results! My sincere thanks, as ever, to the dedicated
staff who have worked with them.
Sports Tour to Jersey
We were delighted to welcome back the members of this year’s Sports Tour. Our
pupils had a brilliant time and achieved significant sporting success. Grateful thanks
to Mr. Cole, Mr. Collard and Mrs. Sparshott-Thompson for taking the children.
End of Term Arrangements
As you know, the Spring term ends next Friday. The school day will end at the earlier
time of 4.15 p.m., and the minibus service will depart at 4.30 p.m. The Spring
Concert will be staged in the Sports Hall, starting at 3.00 p.m. All Senior School pupils
will attend the Concert and Parents are warmly invited.
Pirates of the Curry Bean!
The excitement is building! We look forward to next week’s performances by the
children of Years 3 and 4.
Careful Driving Please!
Please drive with great caution within the school grounds, and on entry to or exit
from the school. We have received a number of calls from members of the public,
who express concern about safety when walking along Becton Lane. Thank you for
your support!
Many Congratulations to:
Kira Morton and Ned Clarke (Year 6), both of whom have been offered places at
the Bournemouth Grammar Schools. These offers are in addition to the 9 mentioned
in last week’s newsletter. My apologies for omitting Kira’s and Ned’s
achievement last week.
From the Library
Books for Africa: Our large collection of donated books has been collected by the
Rotary Club for sorting and sending to schools in Africa in the coming
months. Thank you so much for all your donations. There are some lovely photographs
up on the library walls showing the actual books donated by us last year
being unpacked by some of the beneficiaries, and of a fully stocked, new library. It
has been most thought-provoking for our children to reflect on how very fortunate
they are in their lifestyles and to have access to such a huge range of books both
here at school, and at home.
The array of questions produced for ‘The Best Question in the World’ competition
was deeply impressive, ranging from mathematical to religious, from existential to
humorous. All highly perceptive, they reflect a very mature mind set and give a
powerful impression of the depth of thought that children are capable of. From an
initial display of over 300 questions, the almost impossible task of selecting 150 for
a semi-permanent display has now been completed. The overall ‘winner’ will be
announced before the end of term but please do come and look for yourselves on
the Library’s viewing gallery wall and you will understand why the choice is so challenging!
All Scholastic brochure orders should have been handed in by today, Friday 15 th
March. Thank you for your support, the books should arrive in school by the start
of the Summer Term. If you have missed the deadline, you can still use your World
Book Day vouchers until 24 th March to reduce the price of your book purchase by
£1 in all good book stores, or to purchase outright some of the special £1 World
Book Day publications in supermarkets and bookshops.
The Readathon challenge will run from now until April 19 th and raises sponsorship
money for charities that benefit sick children, whilst encouraging your children to
read. Sponsorship forms were in the envelope sent home last week with club
forms. Guidance on how children might choose to set their reading targets is available
in the Library and Mrs Brebbia is happy to help anyone who needs help deciding
whether to tackle different types of books, a series, a classic or a set number of
chapters or pages. Please do encourage and support your children to take part in
this very worthwhile fundraising effort.
Pre-Prep Cookery Club
Cookery Club made chocolate Easter
nests and decorated them with a chick
and a ‘running Easter bunny’.
No chocolate was eaten during the
process- of course!!!!!!!!! Easter is
nearly here and the children are getting
excited!
