From the Headmaster
Common Entrance Success!
I am delighted to say that our year 8 Pupils have now
received the results of their “Finals”: The Common
Entrance Examinations! All our pupils have results of
which to be very proud indeed; our twenty-two Year 8
Leavers will transfer to twelve different Senior Schools
and, furthermore, nine of the twenty-two have earned
scholarships to their next school! I am very proud indeed
of our pupils and, as ever, tremendously grateful to the
teaching staff, who have taught them so well.
U.K. Junior Maths Challenge
Many congratulations to those Year 8 pupils who entered
the U.K. Junior Maths Challenge – a competition aimed
at the very best Year 8 pupils in the country. All six of our
entrants achieved certificates: Jessica Nice (Bronze:
indicating within the top 10% nationally); Matthew
Titcombe and Joe Case (Silver: indicating within the
top 7% nationally); Patrick Holly, James Gaunt and Max
Clark (Gold : indicating within the top 2 % nationally).
Well done!
Senior School Sports Day
We look forward to this year’s Sports Day (Saturday
22nd June). As usual, do please bring picnics for you
and your family to enjoy in the grounds during the lunch
break. We would be most grateful, however, if dogs are
left at home.

Wessex Athletics
The Athletics season is in full swing, and I congratulate
all pupils who competed at the
Wessex Junior or Senior Athletics Meetings in the last
week. At both events, 30 Prep Schools were represented,
enabling our athletes to compete with the best athletes
in the “Wessex Area”. Special congratulations to Junior
Wessex Champions Flora Lingafelter (Long Jump) and
Oliver Hassan (Hurdles); to the winning Year 7 relay
team of Gemma Pearson, Sydney Asher, Ines Hynett
and Emily Beresford-Davies; and to Senior Wessex
Champions Isabel Richardson (1500m.) and Max
Pumphrey (High Jump). Isabel and Max will therefore
qualify for the National Prep School Championships at
the National Stadium, Birmingham!
Class Concert Week
Next week is “Class Concert Week”, an opportunity for
our pupils to perform informally to classmates, parents
and friends. Good luck to all our performers!
Summer Fair (Durlston Day)
I do hope that you are able to come to this year’s
Summer Fair (Saturday 29th June: 12.00-3.00 p.m.). It
promises to be another fabulous family occasion!

Moving on in September ..........
As part of the transitiion process from one year
group to another; this week Year 4 pupils spent
time with Year 3 pupils talking about the move
into Year 4 in September.
The children really enjoyed their time together
and found it very helpful.
News from Pre-Prep
It has been another busy week in the Pre-Prep. On
Monday morning parents stayed behind after drop
off for a cup of coffee and a chat in the library. They
had the opportunity to discuss books for bedtime
and other reading issues. This is becoming a popular
weekly event and parents are warmly invited to attend.
Reception had a mathematical afternoon on Tuesday,
counting vehicles that travelled down Becton Lane.
They counted 43 cars and 6 vans in 10 mibnutes!
Year 2 went on heir annual trip to Beaulieu Conservation
Trust for a day of ‘commoning’. The children collected
natural materials to dye wool and then completed a super
piece of weaving. They prepared and ate a delicious
nettle soup for lunch. Definitely the highlight of the day!
The children of Early Years dressed up in fairytale
costumes for this year’s Big Toddle. This is the UKs
biggest charity event for children 5 years and under
and aims to help disadvantaged children of the same
age by giving them the opportunities in life that every
child deserves. A huge thank you goes to all of the
parents and carers who supported the event through
generous sponsorship, cake baking or toddling
with our toddlers! As soon as all of the sponsorship
money has been collected we will let you know the
total. Barnardo’s are aiming to raise £800,000 this
year and our contribution can help them to do this!
Year One have been busy painting ‘colour stories’,
making boat collages and using real tools to make
model boats. Much of their work is on display outside
the classrooms for all to see. How clever they are!
Displays of all of the children’s work around
the department are looking stunning and if
you get the chance please pop in to see them.
