EMERITUS institute Birds of Southern California $22 This day trip to the coniferous forest of Wrightwood, CA, will look for Williamson’s Sapsucker, Green-tailed Towhee, Fox Sparrow, Pine Siskin, Purple Finch and more. We can expect to get excellent looks at some remarkable species as we deepen our understanding of California’s natural ecosystems. Art Classes Bead Weaving $40 All skill levels welcome. You will establish and build on your beading knowledge and learn the basic off loom stitches:..Peyote, Square, Right Angle Weave, Netting, Brick, Herringbone, Chevron stitch; and their different forms. Students will be encouraged to create their own style. Students will follow a step-by-step demonstration and paint with the instructor. $2 material fee is due at the first class. Explore various sketching and drawing techniques such as line variation, value and expressive drawing through direct observation. Learn to use graphite, charcoal, ink and colored pencils. Emphasis is on techniques in layering images with textures and lines, as well as experimenting with transparent and opaque painting techniques. Drawing media will be added to the actual paintings. Use mixed media to develop a more imaginative and spontaneous approach to image making on paper and/or canvas. Self-expression is encouraged, all levels welcomed.
