consists of cultural programme. The unique feature of part two was the performance by
Padma Vibhusan Jagjit Singh. The entire programme for Xpressions was conceived,
planned, financed and executed by the students. Xpressions is one of the biggest B-
Schools meets in the country.
12 October was shocking and sad day for XIMB. A group of ten second year students
went to Puri temple after their term examinations and then went for a swim. One of the
boys was carried away by the tidal wave. We got his body only on the third day. Though
he was the only son, the parents accepted this tragedy in the right spirit and appreciated
the work done by the Institute and the students in getting the body and making all
necessary arrangements for the cremation in Puri itself. They were highly touched by the
prayer service organized by the Institute in the auditorium. The Board of Governors of
XIMB instituted a medal in his memory.
We had the second Foundation Day lecture on 30 October. Mr Arun Maira, Chairman of
Boston Consulting Group, gave the lecture. Large number of people attended this lecture,
which was followed by dinner in the Management Development Centre of XIMB.
XIMB PGPRM placement brochure has been adjudged one of the top three best
brochures by the Business School Affaire, Mumbai.
Abe attended the National HRD Convention in Bangalore and George visited Dhanbad
and Chaibasa Communities as Revisor. George Joseph is working with his Ph D guide in
Chennai to finalise his questionnaire for data collection and Tony is busy collecting data
from the Orissa based companies.
Frs Sunil Lakra, Kuruvilla, Victor Misquith and James Tharaniyil made their annual
retreat here. They all said that XIMB with its beautiful green campus and winding roads
is an ideal place for prayer, reflection and relaxation.
Homecoming 2004 was the title of the two–day get together of about 100 odd alumni of
the Institute from different parts of the country on 20–21 November. Most of them were
nostalgic about their re–visit to their alma mater and renewed their bond with the
Institute. The highlight of the occasion was the panel discussion on „Ethics in Business is
an Oxymoron‟ by eminent personalities – Azim Premji, CMD of WIPRO Corporation,
Suhel Seth, Founder and CEO of Equus Redcell and Tapan Mitra, former Chairman of
CII [eastern region] and Haldia Petrochemicals. We were also fortunate to have Azim
Premji take a brief tour of the campus and inaugurate the E–business Centre.
Our students have been hitting headlines these days with the many awards and prizes they
have won in different B–School competitions. They are a bunch of proud and happy
XLers!
