THE GERMAN DOCTOR
n Set in 1960, the film depicts Joseph
Mengele (Àlex Brendemühl) during his exile
in South America. Having adopted a new
identity, he moves into a Patagonian hotel run
by German-speaking Eva and her husband,
Enzo, and becomes particularly interested in
their daughter Lilith. Having won the family’s
trust, Mengele finds a reawakened interest
in human genetic research. Well received at
Cannes last year, the film was Argentina’s
official Oscar entry for best foreign film, but
was not nominated.

WALKING WITH THE ENEMY
n Against the backdrop of war-torn Budapest,
Hungary, during the Second World War, a
young man (Jonas Armstrong) became a hero
to the Jewish people. As a rabbi’s son from
a small town called Kisvárda, Pinchas Tibor
Rosenbaum fought against great odds in one
of Hungary’s most terrifying periods. During
the Nazi occupation in 1944, he and a group
of resistance fighters managed to outsmart the
German machine and save thousands of Jews
from deportation and extermination in the
camps.
