MISSION STATEMENT<br />

The Office of Academic Services supports the <strong>University</strong>’s Mission of preparing future leaders for a global workplace<br />

through the provision of: academic advising and student academic support services.<br />

The academic advising process is a process of continuous improvement, clarification, and evaluation with the aim of<br />

realizing student outcomes and institutional advising goals. It is based on a system of shared responsibility between<br />

student and advisor.<br />

SERVICES FOR STUDENTS ON ACADEMIC WARNING OR PROBATION<br />

Levels of Performance Deficiencies<br />

<strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> has established three levels of academic deficiency: academic warning, probation 1 and probation 2. These are designed<br />

to clearly inform the student how serious the academic deficiency is to the student's successful completion of their degree program and what<br />

level performance the student must achieve in future work in order to regain good academic standing.<br />

Academic Warning<br />

Academic Warning occurs at any time in a student's academic career when the student's prior academic term met the criteria for good<br />

academic standing but the student fails to maintain all three<br />

term.<br />

GOOD STANDING<br />

Occurs during an academic term when a student<br />

has obtained:<br />

- 12 credit hours<br />

- 80 term GPA<br />

- 80 cumulative GPA<br />

WARNING<br />

Occurs when the prior term is good standing<br />

and a student fails to maintain all three good<br />

standing criteria.<br />

PROBATION 1 (P1)<br />

Occurs when the prior term is warning and<br />

the student fails to achieve all three good<br />

standing criteria.<br />

PROBATION 2 (P2)<br />

Occurs when the prior term is probation 1<br />

and the student fails to achieve all three good<br />

standing criteria.<br />

ACADEMIC DISMISSAL<br />

Occurs when the prior term is probation 2,<br />

the student does not show a significant<br />

academic improvement, and/or fails to<br />

achieve all three good standing criteria.<br />

GOOD<br />

STANDING<br />

Any point prior<br />

to dismissal, a<br />

student may<br />

return to good<br />

standing by<br />

meeting ALL<br />

of the criteria<br />

for good standing<br />

as stated:<br />

-12 credit hrs<br />

-80 term GPA<br />

-80 cum GPA<br />

Warning status is for one academic term. (This term begins<br />

the next academic term following the good standing term.)<br />

A student on academic warning must participate in<br />

academic advising through the Academic Services Office.<br />

Probation 1<br />

Probation 1 occurs when a student's prior academic term<br />

met the criteria for academic warning and the student fails<br />

to achieve all three good standing criteria at the end of<br />

their present academic term.<br />

While on probation 1, juniors and seniors will be allowed<br />

to register for a maximum of twenty credit hours including<br />

labs. Freshman and sophomores will be allowed to register<br />

for a maximum of four courses and associated labs. All<br />

such students must participate in academic advising<br />

through the Academic Services Department.<br />

Probation 1 is for one academic term. This term begins<br />

with the next academic term (in which a student takes at<br />

least 12 credit hours) following the warning status term.<br />

A student who meets all of the criteria for good standing<br />

at the end of the probation 1 term will be granted good<br />

standing status.<br />

Probation 2<br />

Probation 2 occurs when a student's prior academic status<br />

was probation 1 and the student fails to achieve all three<br />

good standing criteria at the end of their present academic<br />

term.
