ORANGE F.O.O.D

I first joined the F.O.O.D group some 20 years ago as a young resident to Orange working in the wine industry. I have continued to be involved at various levels in FOOD and wine during the last 20 years and I have found it extremely rewarding, making many friends and developing many events.It is with great pride that I take the reins this year to guide us forward in 2014, our 23rd year.It was after a trip to Italy where my wife and I came across Mangialonga, an event in Piedmonte walking through vineyards enjoying the local produce with 2500 people, which we brought to Orange some years later as FORAGE with the help of other like-minded people.FORAGE has grown from 350 to 750 people, to this year 1000 people who will come to experience “why we live where we live.” Great produce is turned into delicious country fare by our chefs and cooks, accompanied by wines from the experts who grow the grapes and the winemaker that makes them. All this whilst strolling across the vineyards and paddocks taking in the view and produce from our region, cementing what FOOD week is all about.

The 100 Mile Dinner – on the Village Green<br />

people of Molong welcome guests for<br />

the second year to the iconic 100 Mile<br />

Dinner. Food from Mudgee, Young,<br />

Cowra, Canowindra, Orange, Molong<br />

and Bathurst – and their wines – will<br />

be brought to you by these towns’<br />

best chefs. The tickets sell fast, so<br />

F.O.O.D Train<br />

FRI 11 - SUN 13 APRIL<br />

A weekend of food awaits starting with a light<br />

breakfast and a glass of sparkling on board the<br />

FOOD Train. Producers on board will explain<br />

the various methods of how your food gets<br />

from paddock to plate. On arrival in Orange<br />

you’ll be whisked away to savour the food of<br />

the Orange district over the whole weekend<br />

including a fine dining experience, the<br />

FORAGE event on Saturday and on Sunday a<br />

visit to the historic village of Millthorpe with<br />

afternoon tea at the Old Mill Café.<br />

FORAGE<br />

SATURDAY 12 APRIL<br />

NSW Department of Primary Industries joins<br />

the F.O.O.D Week Committee for the fourth<br />

FORAGE event. Starting at Balmoral Vineyard,<br />

progressing through Koomooloo Vineyard and<br />

finishing at a picturesque vineyard at Nashdale,<br />

FORAGE is a walk through these vineyards<br />

(and a cattle property!!) eating and wine tasting<br />

every 500 metres or so! A gentle 3.6km walk<br />

from start to finish, DPI personnel and growers<br />

will be with you to chat and answer your<br />

questions about why our cool climate<br />

produce and wine is sooo good!<br />
