7. Twin Thermostats The twin thermostat design is a feature incorporated in to the Shanks canal boat engine range. It ensures that the engine warms up very quickly due to the first thermostat being closed so that cooling water is routed through around the engine block. This ensures efficient engine operations with reduced fuel consumption and even cleaner exhaust emissions. It also helps in keeping engine wear to a minimum. The diagrams on the following page show the operation of the cooling system. 8. Exhaust Back Pressure The back pressure falls within the manufacturers recommended range when using the exhaust system supplied with the engine.
