a steel rod through the plug and<br />
knock out the plug<br />
on the opposite<br />

Working from the open end,<br />
knock out the remaining plug.<br />
ASSEMBLY<br />
1. Oil all the moving<br />
engine oil.<br />

2. If the plugs were removed<br />
from the ends of the shaft, use a<br />
blunt tool or large diameter pin<br />
punch and install a plug, cup side<br />
out, in each end of the rocker arm<br />
shaft.<br />
3. Install the rocker arms, sup<br />
ports, and springs in the order shown<br />
in Fig. 23. Be sure the oil holes in<br />
the shaft are facing downward. Com<br />
plete the assembly by installing the<br />
remaining two flat washers with the<br />
spring washer between them and in<br />
stall the cotter pin.<br />

DISASSEMBLY<br />
1. Clean the carbon out of the<br />
cylinder head <strong>com</strong>bustion chambers<br />
before removing the valves.<br />
2. Compress the valve springs<br />
(Fig. 24). Then remove the spring re<br />
tainer locks, and release the spring.<br />
