Thanks to Community Radio in Peru:<br />

A Successful Experience<br />

In Peru, radio stations <strong>and</strong> production centres of the northern sub-region of the National<br />

Rradio Coordination Coordinadora Nacional de Radio (CNR) have been working together<br />

with women <strong>and</strong> organized youth since 2005 in order to strengthen their participation<br />

in local governance <strong>and</strong> accountability. This work is part of the “Women’s <strong>and</strong> Youth Rights<br />

to Citizen Participation <strong>and</strong> accountability” project from the process of regionalization in six<br />

zones of the north coast of the country: Piura, Tumbes, Lambayeque, Caj<strong>amarc</strong>a, La Libertad<br />

<strong>and</strong> Ancash. It is a project carried out as part of the decentralization process in Peru <strong>and</strong>, in<br />

the particular context of regionalization, with a view to promoting the participation of women<br />

<strong>and</strong> organized youth in processes of local <strong>and</strong> regional development. Training in the drawing<br />

up of initiatives for the monitoring of public management allows for its inclusion in the design<br />

<strong>and</strong> management of local <strong>and</strong> regional public policy.<br />

This joint adventure began thanks to the support of the Spanish Cooperation Agency, the<br />

Spanish NGO AIETI <strong>and</strong> with the participation of 16 radio stations <strong>and</strong> production centres<br />

of the northern sub-region of the CNR (Radio Cutivalu, Chami Radio, Radio San Sebastián,<br />

Radio Coremarca, Radio Calor, Radio Marañon, Radio Bahia Mix, Centro de Promoción de la<br />

Mujer Micaela Bastidas, Grupo Mujer, Sedys, Radio Vino, Radio Santa Mónica, Radio Manan-
