PAGE 72 SCOW SLANTS FALL/WINTER 2006 Ford Johnstone won all the races handily. In the first race, Will Komas gave him a run for his money. Eric Zettlemoyer sailed his very best to finish third. The second race saw Alex Vasiliou in second, with Gregory Westin pushing him in third. Following a break for lunch and relaxation in the club, the fleet ventured out again. Ford continued his winning ways as the wind remained a steady light breeze. Will Komas bounced back for second place honors. Gregory Westin sailed consistently again to take a trey. The final race of the day again belonged to Ford. William Curtiss sailed to a fine second place finish, and Will Komas rounded out a very consistent series with a three. Ford Johnstone was crowned the Green Fleet Champion. Ford is from <strong>Lake</strong> Forest area but trains with ILYA sailors at Beulah. Beulah’s Will Komas was second, Chicago’s William Curtiss (who also trains with ILYA sailors) was third. Beulah’s Gregory Westin was fourth and Pine’s Alec Bischoff (grandson of judge Terry) was fifth. Race Committee Suzi Reese and Leslie Barkow had their hands full with medium wind, varying skill levels and a huge fleet. FALL/WINTER 2006 SCOW SLANTS PAGE 73 The Championship fleet was a robust 73 sailors, chock full of talent. This regatta also acts as a qualifier for the USODA Team Trials. Sailors qualify for the right to attend the USODA regatta in the Spring that selects the national and international teams for the year. The Red, White and Blue fleet sailed four races the first day under the watchful eye of PRO Mike Sherin. George Kutschenreuter exploded out of the gate to win the first race. Chicago's Alex Curtis, who trains in Wisconsin, took second place honors. Natalie Kay had her best result in third place. The second race had Connor Trepton taking the gun, with Alex Curtis remaining consistent in second. Charlie Davenport got going to post a third place finish. Following a well-deserved lunch break from the heat, the fleet sailed the last two races of the day. Connor Trepton again displayed his winning form, running away with the race. Alex Curtis kept pace, notching another two. George Kutschenreuter returned to form in third position.
