feelings in your sons, not just
those that are considered ‘manly’.
Always be ready to challenge and
question with your sons the ‘mask of
masculinity’.
> Provide positive role models to counter
the too often portrayed notion of manhood
as a combination of toughness, promiscuity,
hard drinking and a willingness to solve every
conflict with violence.
> Monitor their media diet. Watch what they are
watching. Discuss, make comment and show concern
where this is warranted. The sneakier companies, fast
food industry, the soft drink industry, the music industry
and others, through the mass media, shape our boys images
of themselves. Tell them when they are being ‘conned’.
