That it was competent to discuss a motion dealing with " The failure <strong>of</strong> the Government to<br />

make adequate provision for widows and distressed children," notwithstanding that a<br />

notice appeared on the Notice Paper for the introduction <strong>of</strong> a Bill for the promotiori <strong>of</strong> the<br />

objects <strong>of</strong> the Royal Society for the Welfare <strong>of</strong> Mothers and Babies*, as he could not take<br />

cognizance <strong>of</strong> what might be the scope <strong>of</strong> a Bill to'come before the House, 142 .<br />

.That subject <strong>of</strong> motion, " That drastic action be taken by the Government to handle and<br />

"control the increasing cost <strong>of</strong> living, more particularly with regard to pr<strong>of</strong>iteering," was<br />

not a specific matter <strong>of</strong> recent occurrence, and was therefore out <strong>of</strong> or-der, 1154 .<br />

That motion " That it is a matter <strong>of</strong> urgency that the Public Health Act should be amended to<br />

provide greater protection to the-public in the matter <strong>of</strong> infection from contagious diseases<br />

-did not embrace a specific matter <strong>of</strong> recent occurrence, and was out <strong>of</strong> order,,159 .<br />

That a Notice <strong>of</strong> Motion for Adjournment <strong>of</strong> the House having been drawn from the box and ruled<br />

out <strong>of</strong> order before being moved-he would treat it as a nullity-and draw a second motion<br />

from the box without motion being moved, 160 .<br />

That motion "The dismissal <strong>of</strong> the -application by Judge Curlewis <strong>of</strong> the miners' section<br />

<strong>of</strong> the A.W.U . to have an agreement registered in the Arbitration Court-dealt only with<br />

the decision <strong>of</strong> a judge, and was in order-but comments on the conduct <strong>of</strong> the judge<br />

would be out <strong>of</strong> order, 160 .<br />

That motion " The failure <strong>of</strong> the Government to deal effectively with the conditions arising<br />

from this most calamitous drought "-did not deal with a single matter <strong>of</strong> recent<br />

occurrence, and was out <strong>of</strong> order, 168 .<br />

That subject matter <strong>of</strong> motion, " The failure <strong>of</strong> the Government to retain sufficient seed wheat<br />

for the forthcoming sowing, together with the Government's failure to retain sufficient<br />

wheat for flour for consumption by the citizens to carry the State on until the next harvest,<br />

to~gether with their failure to sup foy Ily necessitous farmers and other stock-owners throughout<br />

the State with sustenance and der," was not a'single specifi,; matter <strong>of</strong> recent occurrence,<br />

and was out <strong>of</strong> order, 176 .<br />

That motion "The need for bringing in a Bill to provide for the establishment <strong>of</strong> Local<br />

Government for Greater <strong>New</strong>castle " anticipated discussion <strong>of</strong> an Order <strong>of</strong> the Day on the<br />

Notice Paper for the introduction <strong>of</strong> a Bill to constitute a Greater <strong>New</strong>castle, and was<br />

therefore out <strong>of</strong> order, 229 .<br />

That motion " That Miners' Accident Relief Act beamended to provide an inereas6 in payment<br />

to persons entitled to same "-did not deal with a specific matter <strong>of</strong> recent occurrence, and<br />

was therefore out <strong>of</strong> order, 239 .<br />
