challenges that we face and question what solutions are necessary to help push us in<br />
the right direction. It’s never easy to pick the right answer. We need to be a company<br />
that aggressively questions what needs to be done and is innovative in coming up<br />
with solutions.<br />

I’ll add that it is imperative to know where you want to be. Whether it’s for a project,<br />
a company, however you want to apply it, it is important to have a vision of where<br />
you want to be so people know where it is that you’re trying to get. I think the<br />
solutions will always be slightly different, and they should be, but if you’ve got a<br />
clear idea of where you’re going then at least you’re all working towards the same<br />
end. •<br />

Peter Halsall is President of Halsall, PB’s Canadian operating company, which comprises Halsall<br />
Associates Limited (providing engineering services), Pivotal Projects (providing advisory and project<br />
management services) and Loop Initiatives (providing sustainability consulting services). He has had an<br />
oversight role on a wide variety of structural design, cladding engineering, building restoration, green<br />
planning and design, and building evaluation projects, and heads PB’s corporate sustainability initiatives<br />
and green design services.<br />

Dr. Gary McVoy is PB’s Practice Leader for transportation/sustainability. He has been a transportation<br />
leader and innovator in environment, maintenance, and operations, and as such has led projects and<br />
policy in transportation/sustainability, asset management, traveler information, emergency response,<br />
environmental stewardship, and environmental assessment and streamlining. Dr. McVoy previously<br />
served as Director of New York State Department of Transportation Operations Division, overseeing the<br />
activities of more than 5,600 employees.<br />

Dr. Michael D. Meyer holds the Frederick R. Dickerson Chair, is Director of the Georgia Transportation<br />
Institute, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and former Chair of the School of Civil<br />
and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Meyer previously served<br />
as Director of Transportation Planning and Development for Massachusetts, and in 2006 was named<br />
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Transportation Research Board. He currently works with PB<br />
on many of its sustainability engagements.<br />
