Partnering with Peking University to promote Chinese linguistics research
In December 2008, PolyU joined up
with Peking University and founded
the “PolyU-Peking U Research
Centre on Chinese Linguistics”,
which is operated by the Department
of Chinese and Bilingual Studies. The
research centre has a main objective
to develop Chinese linguistics
research that encompasses both
Eastern and Western perspectives. The
Centre has collaborated with Peking
University Press to publish a "Qian
Yan"series on linguistics, as well as a
computing language series authorized
by the Cambridge University Press
for the Chinese market. Having
signed a publication agreement with
the Cambridge University Press, the
Research Centre is now compiling
a reference book titled “Cambridge
Reference Grammar on the Chinese
Language”, which will be published
by the CUP. The book will become
a rare reference to Chinese grammar
that is written in English with detailed
and easy-to-understand contents
in the 30 years past. It is going to
be of profound significance and
contribution to the academic scope
of Chinese linguistics. In November
2009, the Centre organized “The
Fifth International Conference on
Contemporary Chinese Grammar”.
