Over the past decade, <strong>PolyU</strong> has been<br />
cont<strong>in</strong>uously promot<strong>in</strong>g cooperation<br />
with universities and organizations on<br />
the ma<strong>in</strong>land. Curently the <strong>University</strong><br />
has about 600 exchange projects <strong>in</strong><br />
collaboration with approximately 240<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>land <strong>in</strong>stitutes. <strong>The</strong> cooperation<br />
falls <strong>in</strong>to the scopes of research and<br />
development, exchange students,<br />
recruitment of ma<strong>in</strong>land students,<br />
summer <strong>in</strong>ternship, jo<strong>in</strong>t supervison of<br />
PhD students, jo<strong>in</strong>t offer of academic<br />
programmes, exchange visits,<br />
jo<strong>in</strong>t conferences, collaboration <strong>in</strong><br />
curriculum development, etc. Through<br />
years of dedicated efforts, <strong>PolyU</strong> has<br />
created an <strong>in</strong>fluential network with<br />
a wide coverage <strong>in</strong> the vast land of<br />
Ch<strong>in</strong>a, which is extremely useful for<br />
the <strong>University</strong>’s further development<br />
<strong>in</strong> the Ch<strong>in</strong>ese ma<strong>in</strong>land.<br />

With the rapid development of the<br />
<strong>University</strong>’s ma<strong>in</strong>land affairs, <strong>PolyU</strong><br />
re-structured the “Outpost Centre”<br />
<strong>in</strong>to the “Ch<strong>in</strong>ese Ma<strong>in</strong>land Affairs<br />
Office” (CMAO) <strong>in</strong> May 2008, which<br />
now acts as the bridge for academic<br />
collaboration and cultural exchange<br />
amongst <strong>PolyU</strong> and organizations <strong>in</strong><br />
the Ch<strong>in</strong>ese ma<strong>in</strong>land, Taiwan and<br />
Macau. <strong>The</strong> CMAO is a designated<br />
executive arm of <strong>PolyU</strong> <strong>in</strong> forg<strong>in</strong>g<br />
close collaboration between <strong>PolyU</strong><br />
and the three regions. Its scope of<br />
service covers outpost management<br />
and programme adm<strong>in</strong>istration,<br />
student exchange programmes,<br />
exchange visits of scholars, as well as<br />
recruitment of ma<strong>in</strong>land students to<br />
study undergraduate and postgraduate<br />
programmes at <strong>PolyU</strong>.
