MHA Slam Dunks Its Way To Victory
THE Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) emerged as Overall Champion
of the Public Service Basketball Tournament 2011 after coming in
top in the Men's Open Category and third in the Women's Open
Category at the finals held at the CCAB Sports Hall on Thursday, 17
November 2011. A total of 33 teams from 19 government agencies
participated in the tournament.
MHA convenor Mr Soh Wan Khuan said his teams' win was a
"good testimonial to the hard work" of everyone involved. They
had started training two months before, and also played in other
competitions which helped cement their teamwork. He also thanked
Men’s Open champion team from MHA.
the coach, Mr Han Lijun, the players' "commitment and sacrifices", as
well as understanding and support of the various departments' management in granting them time for training.
MHA Masters The Water Dragons
DRAGONS glided
and danced upon
the Singapore River
on 26 and 27 Nov
2011. It was the hotly
contested Public
Service Dragon Boat
Race again; and for
the 12th consecutive
year, the Ministry
of Home Affairs (MHA) emerged from the churning waters as
overall champions. It triumphed in 3 of the 6 categories: the
Open Event (22-crew) and both Men's and Women's Events
(12-crew). Team manager, Superintendent of Police Mr Alan
Wong, said his team members felt a "sense of euphoria" at
maintaining its proud tradition and track record. He credited
his "highly driven" and committed team mates who trained
intensively and regularly for the competition.
The ethos of teamwork and mental toughness, as well
as the management and Police Sports Association's strong
support, were other key factors for their success. He quoted
Helen Keller: "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so
much." This is the ethos the MHA team strongly lives by and
the early identification of rowers proved to be advantageous
as well. Indeed, this championship has unequivocally raised
the high spirits of the team, actuating them to conquer greater
heights in future.
