Eastern Psychologies
This course first introduces students to the definitions and orientations
of Eastern psychologies in relationship to Western psychology.
Ajaya (1984) compares and contrasts the diverse
approaches of Eastern and Western psychologies from a Yogic
perspective. In so doing, he allows students to begin the transition
to Eastern views by gradually introducing concepts and
relating them to Western perspectives. 3.0 credits.
The Life of Alan Watts
This course considers the life and work of Alan Watts (1915-
1973), early pioneer in the emergence of humanistic and
transpersonal psychology. Students will consider Watts' ideas in
the context of his chronological biography by reading In My
Own Way, his own autobiographical statement, while at the
same time reading and discussing Watts' major writings during
different periods of his career. 3.0 credits.
Introduction to the Life & Work of C.G. Jung and
Contemporary Perspectives in Analytical Psychology
The course offers an overview of the life and times of C.G. Jung,
in cultural context from 1875 to 1961, through autobiography
and recent critical biography. It provides an introduction to the
core constructs of his theories of personality, psychoanalysis and
psychotherapy and post Jungian extensions and critiques of his
work in Analytical psychology that include areas of neuroscience,
attachment theory, spirituality, and cultural complex
theories. 3.0 credits.
Psychology of Shamanism
The topic of shamanism-- is a topic of great fascination and complexity.
The learning guide for the course has been designed to
assist students in that journey into the shaman's world, in the
psychological knowledge to be gained from the quest, in the personal
transformations that might ensue on student expeditions,
and in their safe return when the cycle has been completed. 3.0
credits.
Neuropsychology of Dreams and Dreaming
The course covers one of the most fascinating areas of investigation
in consciousness studies; few if any other areas bring together
