Field Support Meeting on the Guidance Streamlining Initiative (GSI): <strong>The</strong><br />

Classification Analysis and Production Team, Technical Guidance Division,<br />

Office ofNuclear and National Security Infonnation, will conduct a meeting on<br />

the GSI January 23-25 at the DOE Operations Office in Las Vegas. This week,<br />

the Headquarters representatives to the meeting continue to work on the material<br />

to be presented. <strong>The</strong>re are multiple purposes for the meeting. <strong>The</strong> first purpose is<br />

to familiarize the field with the current thrust of guidance streamlining and show<br />

them how the database system will help reduce duplications and inconsistencies in<br />

the classification guides. To accomplish.this streamlining goal, the classification<br />

topics will need to be rearranged by subject area. <strong>The</strong> second purpose of the<br />

meeting will be to try the actual rearrangement ofclassification topics in two<br />

subject areas. In addition to coming up with streamlined topics, the attendees will<br />

also draft rules for writing and organizing streamlined topics.<br />

Technical Evaluation Panel (TEP) Issues: <strong>The</strong> Classification Analysis and<br />

Production Team, Technical Guidance Divisio~ Office ofNuclear and National<br />

Security Information, is preparing for the next TEP meeting, which is tentatively<br />

scheduled for April 4-5. <strong>The</strong> team is also preparing a letter for the Director,<br />

Office of Security Affairs, to confirm the Los Alamos National Laboratory<br />

nominee for the TEP membership.<br />

Development of a Classified Annex to CG-SS-4: <strong>The</strong> Technology Program,<br />

Technical Guidance Division. Office ofNuclear and National Security<br />

Infonnation, resumed the task of developing a classified annex to CG-SS-4,<br />

"Classification and Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Infonnation Guide for<br />

Safeguards and Security Information." This annex will address issues concerning<br />

Special Access Programs, Technical Surveillance Countenneasures, Intelligl=nce,<br />

and Counterintelligence (CI). Representatives ofthe Technology Program are<br />

currently refining the Cl chapter based on discussions with representatives and the<br />

Intelligence chapter consistent with comm~nts to the fmal draft CG-IN'-I.<br />
