Proposed Declassification of the Current IDghly Enriched Uranium and<br />

Plutonium Inventories at the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site<br />

(RFETS): <strong>The</strong> Technology Prognun, Teehnical Guidance Division, Office of<br />

Nuclear and National Security Information, is reviewing a proposal from the<br />

Manager, Rocky Flats Field Office, to the Direetor, Office of Security and<br />

Emergency Operations (SO-I); to declassify the current special nuclear material<br />

invefttories at RFETS. On January 19, Technology Program staff met with the<br />

Office of Safety, Health and Seeurity, Environmental Management, and the Rocky<br />

Flats Office. Environmental Management to discuss the issue paper. A signature<br />

package to the Director, Office of Security and Emergency Operations is in<br />

preparation to close out this issue.<br />

Meeting with th e Department of Defense on Proposed Declassification of<br />

United Kingdom Plutonium Information: <strong>The</strong> Teehnology Prognun, Technical<br />

Guidance Division, Office ofNuclear and National Security Infonnation. met with<br />

staff from.the Department ofDefense to discuss the proposed. declassification of<br />

United Kingdom plutonium infonnation and other topics. <strong>The</strong> Department of<br />

Defense staffers informally approved part ofthe United Kingdom declassification<br />

request and requested an impact analysis for the remainder. <strong>The</strong> Department of<br />

Defense will send a fonnal reply to the Office ofNucJear and National Security<br />

Infonnation.<br />

Infrastructure Asset Evaluation (IAE): <strong>The</strong> Technology Program, Technical<br />

Guidance Division, Office ofNuclear and National Security Information, assisted<br />

the Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office in training Office ofSeeurity and<br />

Operations staff at Forrestal on Project Matrix and the IAE. An e-mail was sent to<br />

all classification officers and Headquarters classification representatives<br />

concerning this project and the need for support in reviewing completed IAEs for<br />

classification.<br />

"Classification and UCNI Guide for Nuclear Incident Response," CG-NIR-l:<br />

<strong>The</strong> Technical Guidance Division, Office ofNuclear and National Security<br />

Information, met with Ron Smoker (DP-23) to discuss the agenda for a meeting<br />

on CG-NIR- l planned for the week ofJanuary 23 in Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Smoker<br />

provided a copy ofthe latest draft ofCG-NIR-l for our review and showed us the
