High Priority Review: <strong>The</strong> Document Deelassification Division (DDD), Office of<br />
Nuclear and National Security Information bas received a request from Jonathan<br />
Medalia, Congressional Research Service, to conduct a declassification review of a<br />
draft repolt entitled Nuclear Weapons for Destroying Buried Targets. This report<br />
provides technical and legislative background, strategic implication, and pros and<br />
cons ofthe Fiscal Year 2001 National Defense Authorization Act provision<br />
directing the Department ofEnergy to assist the Department ofDefense with a study<br />
of defeating deeply buried or hardened targets. ODD bas assigned this action a high<br />
priority to expedite the review to prepare this document for public release.<br />

Temporary Re-Allocation of Statutory Reviews Program (SRP) Staff: For the<br />
past two weeks, onc Federal staff member of SRP has assisted the Historical<br />
Records Audit Program (HRAP) in its production oftheir Third Annual Report to<br />
Congress. SpecificaUy, the SRP staff is performing quality assurance reviews of<br />
boxes of documents possibly containing Restricted Data and Formerly Restricted<br />
Data. At ·this time, it is not known whether the SRP staff will be needed to further<br />
assist HR.AP.<br />

High Priority Review: <strong>The</strong> Document Declassification Division (DDD), Office of<br />
Nuclear and National Security Information received a compact disk containing<br />
approximately 5,000 pages of information for the presidential transition team. This<br />
disk was produced by the Office ofDefeose Programs (DP) and contained a DP<br />
overview, fact sheets, briefings and issue papers, selected legislation, key plarming<br />
documents, environmental documents, GAO reports. Congressional Research<br />
Service reports, and treaties. Due to the extremely short time allotted. for a<br />
declassification review, DDD handled this package as our highest priority and<br />
dedicated an eight reviewer team, duplicated the CD to provide each team member a<br />
copy, and was able to complete this high priority review in only a few hours.<br />

Sensitive Electronic Information Detection (SEID) Team Ships Updated<br />
Knowledgebase and Detection Engine: <strong>The</strong> SEID team shipped an updated<br />
knowledgebase and detection engine to the Sandia National Laboratories in<br />
preparation for the second phase of field testing ofthe Review Assistance System<br />
(RAS). This phase oftesting will focus primarily on core topics in <strong>The</strong>nnonuclear<br />
Wl.!'apons and is scheduled to begin January 8.<br />
