Engine Belt Tension
Belt Tension :
Check the condition of belts on the engine. Examine the edges
of the belt for cracks or fraying.
Check the tension of the belt by pushing on it with your thumb
midway between the pulleys for the alternator belt, power
steering pump belt and A.C. compressor belt. If the belt tension
is not proper i.e. it gets deflected more than specified, get it
attended to at the nearest Authorised Service outlet.
Belt tension adjustment :
a. Loosen bottom mounting bolt of the alternator.
b. Loosen bolt holding upper mounting of alternator to the
clamping piece.
c. Loosen the lock nut.
d. Adjust belt tension by turning the adjusting nut i.e. by
turning the alternator away from the engine.
e. Tighten lock nut and the bolt holding the clamping piece to
alternator.
f. Tighten bottom mounting bolt.
g. Recheck belt tension.
