She was preceded in death by a granddaughter,<br />
Jazlyn P. M. Grundel-Valentin and<br />
by a sister, Anna Tortorici.<br />
She was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y.,<br />
the daughter of Leonard Costa. She lived in<br />
SOUTHBRIDGE — David H. Leduc, 61, of<br />
Fiske St., died Thursday, Feb. 19, in the<br />
Harrington Memorial Hospital, <strong>Southbridge</strong>,<br />
after an illness.<br />
He leaves his longtime companion,<br />
Paulette Collette; his mother, Jeannette<br />
(Bourassa) Leduc of <strong>Southbridge</strong>; a daughter,<br />
Sheena Collette of <strong>Southbridge</strong>; five brothers,<br />
Kenneth Leduc of Middleboro, Dennis<br />
Leduc, Barry Leduc, Michael Leduc and<br />
Bruce Leduc, all of <strong>Southbridge</strong>; four sisters,<br />

Heights, passed away<br />
Thursday, Feb. 19, in UMass<br />
Hospital, Worcester.<br />
His wife of 51 years,<br />
Florence M. (Moninski)<br />
Siegmund, died in 1999.<br />
Mr. Siegmund leaves behind two children,<br />
Theodore B. “Ted” Siegmund and his wife<br />
Mary Ellen of Webster and Linda Chartland<br />
and her husband Paul of Bellingham. He also<br />
leaves three grandchildren, Christopher,<br />
Adam and Stacy, two brothers, Russell and<br />
Donald Siegmund, both of Dudley, a sister,<br />
Norma Beauchesne of Dudley, and a sisterin-law,<br />
Regina Moninski of Webster.<br />
Elmer was born in Webster son of Paul and<br />

Bzorek, 63, of Ballou Street, died Tuesday,<br />
Feb. 17, at his home.<br />

He was born in Auburn, the son of Carl E.<br />
and Gladys (Whitcomb) Svedberg. He was a<br />
1948 graduate of Millbury High School.<br />
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean<br />
War.<br />
Carl worked as a sonic inspector for the<br />
Wyman Gordon Co. for 35 years before retiring<br />
in 1991. He was a longtime member of the<br />
Charlton Baptist Church and was also a member<br />
of the Friendship Baptist Church in Sun<br />
City Center. He was a member of the VFW post<br />
7916 in Woodbridge, Va.<br />
His funeral service was held Saturday, Feb.<br />
21, in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130<br />
Hamilton St., <strong>Southbridge</strong>, with Pastor A.<br />
Theodore Ekholm and Pastor Stephen<br />
Nordbye presiding. Burial was in All Faiths<br />
Cemetery, Worcester.<br />

She moved to Webster in 1985. She graduated<br />
from Northport High School in 1958.<br />
Mrs. Grundel was a bookkeeper at Chris<br />
Chevrolet and at Webster-Dudley Lincoln<br />
Mercury, both in Dudley, and also for her husband’s<br />
business. She retired in 2005.<br />
She was an active member of St. Joseph<br />
Basilica, once serving on the parish council<br />
and on many committees. She was a past<br />
president of the St. Joseph Polish Women’s<br />
Club, and a past member of the Holy Rosary<br />
Sodality, the Sacred Heart Society and the<br />
Saint Anne Society.<br />
The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 24, from<br />
the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340<br />
School St., with a Mass in Saint Joseph<br />
Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial was in St.<br />
Joseph Garden of Peace.<br />
The family suggests that, instead of flowers,<br />

retiring. David was a happy-go-lucky person<br />
with a big heart and enjoyed spending time<br />
with his friends and his family. He especially<br />
enjoyed spending time with his grandson.<br />
A graveside service in Oak Ridge Cemetery<br />
will be held at a later date. There are no calling<br />

Mr. Bzorek worked as a truck driver and a<br />
foreman at a sulfur mine in Poland before<br />
moving to Killingly, Conn. He liked the quiet<br />
life, Polish cooking, and Polish traditions.<br />
He especially loved his daughters.<br />
Stanley is survived by two daughters,<br />
Bozena Golemo of Danielson, and Danuta<br />
“Donna” Dzieminski of Webster; a brother,<br />
Tadeusz Bzorek of Poland; his sister Zofia<br />
Pawlik of Poland; and a grand daughter,<br />
Karolina Dzieminski.<br />
At Stanley’s request, services were private.<br />

(Bougourd) Spiewakowski, 69,<br />
of Dalessandro Avenue, died<br />
Friday, Feb. 20, at home surrounded<br />
by her family.<br />
She leaves her husband of<br />
47 years, Walter F.<br />
Spiewakowski; three sons,<br />
Steven R. Spiewakowski and his wife Maria of<br />
Mansfield, Bruce D. Spiewakowski and his<br />
wife Pamela of Dudley, and Matthew F.<br />
Spiewakowski and his wife Carol of Carver; a<br />
brother, John Bougourd and his wife Joan of<br />
Athens, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Erika,<br />
Daniel, Ethan, Evan, Abigail, Haley, Brett and<br />
Kylie; nieces and nephews.<br />
She was born in Utica, N.Y., and raised in<br />
New Haven, Conn., the daughter of John and<br />
Jeanette (Maziarz) Bougourd. She moved to<br />
Charlton in 1957 and lived in Webster and<br />
Dudley since her marriage. She graduated<br />
from Hilltop High School in New Haven in<br />
1957.<br />
Mrs. Spiewakowski was an accounting clerk<br />

WEBSTER — Joseph M.<br />
Jolda, 89, a retired educator,<br />
died Feb. 19, at his home after<br />
a brief illness.<br />
His wife of 54 years,<br />
Florence M. (Godzik) Jolda,<br />
died in 2003.<br />
He is survived by three<br />
sons, J. Gregory and his wife<br />
Ann (Stinehour) Jolda of<br />
Augusta, Maine, Ronald S.<br />
and his wife Mary<br />
(Tamosaitis) Jolda, James M.<br />
and his wife Alison (Hayes)<br />
Jolda, both of Webster; his<br />
daughter, Nancie (Jolda)<br />
O’Brien and her husband Michael O’Brien of<br />
Richmond, Va.; a sister, Carol (Jolda) Pailler<br />
of Framingham and 13 grandchildren.<br />
He was predeceased by his brother, Florian<br />
John Jolda.<br />
He was born in Webster, a son of Stanley<br />
and Josephine (Tadla) Jolda and lived most of<br />
his life here.<br />
He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica.<br />
Mr. Jolda graduated from Saint Joseph<br />
School and Bartlett High School. He earned<br />
his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering<br />
from Worcester Polytechnic Institute<br />
(WPI) and his graduate degree in education<br />
from Worcester State College. He did post<br />
masters work at Assumption College and<br />
WPI.<br />
After receiving his bachelor’s degree Mr.<br />
Jolda was employed by Federal Telephone &<br />
Radio Co. in Newark, N.J. During World War<br />
II, he was test engineer on the Glide Path portion<br />
of the Instrument Landing System and<br />
when RADAR came into its own, he worked<br />
on the famous Ground Controlled Approach<br />
System for the Army Air Force. This system<br />
was used by the Air Force for many years.<br />
After the war, Mr. Jolda returned to<br />
Webster where he married Florence Mary<br />
Godzik and changed his career to education.<br />
He taught at Bartlett High School,<br />
Quinsigamond Community College and<br />
Worcester Junior College. He was appointed<br />
as Dean of the <strong>Evening</strong> Division of<br />
Worcester Junion College after working for<br />
the Worcester County Engineering<br />
Department. He finished his career by<br />

Gomes, 30, of Webster, formerly<br />
of Cape Cod, passed<br />
away unexpectedly Sunday,<br />
Feb. 15, in his home after an<br />
illness.<br />
He is survived by his son,<br />
Deshaun Michael Gomes, of<br />
Sudbury; his mother, Mary<br />
Gomes and her fiancé Wayne McInnis of<br />
Fryeburg, Maine.<br />
He was preceded in death by his father<br />
Glenn Gomes, of Cape Cod in 2004.<br />
He leaves two sisters; his twin Megan<br />
Gomes and his younger sister Monica<br />
Gomes, both of Webster. He leaves his three<br />
nieces, two aunts Lucille Gomes and Karen<br />
Comer, two uncles John and Richard<br />
Anderson and many close cousins. He is also<br />

the surgery section of Hubbard Regional<br />
Hospital in Webster for 25 years before retiring<br />
in 2004.<br />
Her family was her treasure and she was<br />
fiercely devoted to it.<br />
She was a member of the Sturbridge Red<br />
Hat Society. She enjoyed golfing, crafts and<br />
ceramics, and camping. She was a fan of the<br />
New England Patriots and a staunch supporter<br />
of the New York Yankees. Her family was<br />
her treasure.<br />
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.<br />
Thursday, Feb. 26, in the First Congregational<br />
Church of Dudley, 135 Center Rd. Calling<br />
hours were held Wednesday, Feb. 25, in<br />
Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St.,<br />
Webster.<br />

and taught physics and calculus.<br />
During his Deanship he was awarded a fellowship<br />
in Junior College Administration at<br />
the University of Texas and was honored by<br />
being named Outstanding Educator of the<br />
Year by his peers.<br />
Mr. Jolda served the town of Webster by<br />
being elected to the Webster School<br />
Committee for three terms, serving as chairman<br />
for three years. He also was elected to<br />
the Bay Path School Committee and the<br />
Webster Lake Commission. He was a member<br />
and president of the Exchange Club of<br />
Webster. He held a membership in the<br />
Institute of Electrical and Electronics<br />
Engineers, where he served as chairman. He<br />
was a member of the old ZPRK Society where<br />
he served as secretary.<br />
Mr. Jolda was an accomplished clarinetist.<br />
During his youth he played with local Polish<br />
American Groups including the Pulaski<br />
Brass Band and Stan Kolak’s Radio<br />
Brodcasting Orchestra, for which he also<br />
wrote and arranged music. He still enjoyed<br />
playing his clarinet and piano until the time<br />
of his death.<br />
Mr. Jolda was an Amateur Radio Operator,<br />
with the station call letters of KA1MLN. He<br />
earned a certificate for contacting 100 countries<br />
by satellite. He held memberships in the<br />
American Radio Relay League and Amateur<br />
Satellite Corporation. He was also a licensed<br />
movie projectionist and held a Professional<br />
Engineers’ License in Massachusetts.<br />

(Mason) Bernier, 89, formerly<br />
of McGovern Lane,<br />
passed away Monday, Feb.<br />
16, in Webster Manor.<br />
Her husband of 62 years,<br />
David J. Bernier Sr., died in<br />
2001.<br />
Mrs. Bernier leaves<br />
behind a son, David J. Bernier Jr., and his<br />
wife Lois of Webster; a daughter, Janice A.<br />
Peloquin of Vernon, Conn.; four grandchildren,<br />
David J. Bernier III, Jill Anne Hobson,<br />
Ellen Savory, and Vicki Marques; also four<br />
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert<br />
Mason of Cape Cod and James Mason of<br />
Florida; and two sisters, Lorraine Kilborn of<br />
North Grosvenordale, Conn., and Jeannette<br />
Lozinski of Dudley and many nieces and<br />
nephews.<br />
Mrs. Bernier was predeceased by a grandson,<br />
Jason C. Bernier, a brother, Harold<br />
Mason, and three sisters, Mary Rose Lyon,<br />
Doris Kroll and Shirley Deary.<br />
She was born in Webster, daughter of<br />
Atwood and Rose (Breault) Mason and lived<br />
here all her life. She worked as a book keeper<br />
at Cranston Print Works Co., Hubbard<br />
Regional Hospital, both in Webster and<br />
retired from Matulitis Nursing Home in East<br />
Putnam.<br />
She enjoyed gardening and golfing, and<br />
was the ladies golf champion at Raceway<br />
Golf Club in 1960.<br />

service for Marjorie was held Thursday, Feb.<br />
19, at Calvary Cemetery in Dudley.<br />

missed by all.<br />
