MSBA to accelerate $3M to Dudley/Charlton district<br />

BOSTON — Rep. Paul Kujawski, D-Webster, and Katherine Craven, Massachusetts<br />

School Building Authority (MSBA) executive director, have announced that the MSBA<br />

has accelerated $166 million in payments to more than 130 cities, towns and regional<br />

school districts.<br />

These payments will provide much needed cash to communities at a time of local fiscal<br />

stress and recently announced cuts in local aid that includes a total of $3,188,650 for<br />

the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District in the form of Prior Grants.<br />

“During these tough financial times our district can use every bit of help we can<br />

receive,” said Kujawski. “MSBA has continued to be a large part of our community’s<br />

educational system as they are strong supporters of Dudley-Charlton Regional School<br />

District.”<br />

“Under the former program, a majority of these payments wouldn’t have been made<br />

until the last day of the fiscal year,” said Craven.<br />

To date, the MSBA has made approximately $6 billion in reimbursements to cities and<br />

towns for school construction projects inherited from the former program. These payments<br />

have saved municipalities millions of dollars in interest costs and reinvigorated<br />

a system that once had approximately $11 billion in outstanding obligations. In its fouryear<br />

history, the MSBA has successfully contained the Commonwealth’s formerly rampant<br />

and unsustainable financial liability for the costs of 1,150 local school construction<br />

projects. In 2007, the MSBA was able to reopen a sustainable, reformed grant program as<br />

a result of programmatic reforms and sound fiscal management.
