Local skaters take center stage at Bay State Games<br />
AUBURN — Leila Wang of Northborough, Elisa<br />
Raymond of Sutton and Brianna DeMartino of<br />
Oxford competed recently at the Bay State Games<br />
hosted at Williams College, Williamstown.<br />
The Bay State Winter Games are part of the<br />
Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation. The<br />
games are an Olympic-style sports festival that allows<br />
participants to have a great experience in their sport<br />
and to take in all the other competitions that the<br />
Games offer.<br />
The 2009 Bay State Winter Games celebrated its 24th<br />
year this season with more than 700 participants in<br />
figure skating, alpine skiing and ice hockey. The<br />
Winter Games remain a popular competition for athletes<br />
of all ages from across the Massachusetts.<br />
Elisa placed sixth in her age division with a nice<br />
program skated to “Cirque de Soleil.” She completed<br />
all required elements including landing the infamous<br />
axel jump to open her program.<br />
Brianna placed fifth with her entertaining rendition<br />
of “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”<br />
Leila performed a near flawless program to the ballet<br />
“Giselle” which won her a silver medal and<br />
secured a spot for her in the state games to be held in<br />
Colorado Springs, Colo., this summer.<br />
The girls workout at the Horgan Arena, located in<br />
Auburn and represent The Central Massachusetts<br />
Figure Skating Club under the coaching direction of<br />
Tracy Griffin.<br />
Congratulation girls, we look forward to hearing<br />
more about the skaters from Central Massachusetts<br />
FSC in March when many of them will compete in the<br />
38th Annual Skating Club of Natick Competition.<br />
